Greetings from the North Shore,
Yesterday we drove the route along the North Shore of Oahu. Our goal was to get the lay of the land and mark a few spots on the map to visit later. We ended up eating our way through the route 😊There are hundreds of roadside stands and food trucks. We started at a popular local bakery. We got a box full of goodies and tried their famous Snow Puppies -pastry, coconut custard, chocolate and powdered sugar. Messy and delicious. Along the way we had fresh steamed shrimp, seasoned pineapple, Hui-Hui Chicken, parmesan sweet corn, dragon fruit, passion fruit, Kona coffee and a fried banana
.
One thing we noticed early on were the chickens. They are everywhere, running loose. At the beach, near the food trucks, tons of chickens. Geckos are everywhere, too. Even in our apartment. The Ko’olau Mountain range followed us on our drive. You’ll recognize it from the Jurassic Park movies. It is immense and beautiful. We stopped at a couple beaches to put our toes in the water and definitely picked a couple spots to come back to later in the week.
The next two days we will be at Pearl Harbor. Trevor’s dad, uncle and grandpa all served in the Navy. We will be at the USS Arizona on October 13, the 247th birthday of the US Navy.
